Recorder and storage: NVR or DVR sized to the retention you want, with drives built to run continuously.
Remote viewing: Access from a smartphone, router and app configuration, and a check that the image really gets through.

The choices that change everything

IP PoE or HD analogue: IP PoE runs a single cable per camera: image and power together. HD analogue reuses coaxial cabling already in place, which often avoids reopening the walls.
Resolution: 4 MP covers the vast majority of needs. 4K earns its place when you must recognise a face or read a plate at distance — not to watch a corridor.
Recording duration: Seven, fifteen or thirty days: that choice, more than the number of cameras, determines the size of the disk. Best settled before buying.
